HGTV Star Opens Up About a Struggling Year After Tragic Losses

A Year of Grief and Gratitude
HGTV star Jenny Marrs, known for her work on Fixer to Fabulous, has opened up about the challenges her family faced in 2025. In a recent social media post, she shared her thoughts on the year that was and her hopes for the year ahead. Jenny emphasized the importance of spiritual reflection over traditional New Year's resolutions.
In her caption, she explained that instead of setting goals based on personal willpower, she prefers to "record specific prayers for the coming year." She believes that these prayers help guide her heart, attitude, and actions toward a higher purpose. This year, however, brought a different perspective.
Jenny mentioned that 2025 was a difficult year for her family. She and her husband, Dave Marrs, lost several loved ones, including Dave’s mother, Donna, Jenny’s grandmother, their beloved dog Dolly, and close friends Jill and Bob. Despite the grief, she found comfort in her faith and the ways she saw God's presence in her life.
"I’m ending this year a bit melancholy, sad to step into a new one without four dearly, dearly loved ones and our Dolly-girl, but I’m also grateful," Jenny said. She expressed gratitude for the nearness of God and the way He continues to restore her soul despite the sorrow. Looking forward, she shared hopes for 2026: "May 2026 be a year of joy-filled moments, new adventures, peaceful days, and deep, soul rest."
A Personal Episode on Fixer to Fabulous
One of the most emotional moments for Jenny and Dave came during the production of Fixer to Fabulous Season 7, Episode 4. The episode focused on renovating a cabin for Bob and his wife, Jill. Unfortunately, Bob passed away while on vacation with Jill during the filming of the episode, which was shot in early 2025. Jill also died after the episode was completed.
The couple shared their reflections on the episode in a December 23 Instagram post. Jenny described it as "a really, really personal one." She noted that it was the first time they had experienced such a loss during a project. "It never happened to us before, where we were in the middle of a project and Bob actually passed away in the middle of it," she said in the video.
Dave added that Bob did get to see the property before he died, though he wasn’t able to witness the finished product. The cabin, which was meant to be a surprise for Jill, is now being used by the Marrs and their five children as their family cabin.
Jenny and Dave also shared how much Bob had enjoyed being part of the show. "He was so excited about having the cabin renovated on Fixer to Fabulous because he loved being a part of the show," Dave said.
Moving Forward with Hope
Despite the pain of losing loved ones, Jenny and Dave continue to find strength in their faith and each other. Their journey through grief has been deeply personal, but they remain committed to carrying forward the legacy of those they’ve lost. As they look ahead to 2026, they carry with them not only memories but also a renewed sense of purpose and hope.
Their story highlights the power of faith, family, and the unexpected twists that life can bring. Through their experiences, they have learned to appreciate the small moments and to trust in a higher plan, even when the path is uncertain.
