Brigitte Bardot's Final Haunting Words

Brigitte Bardot, a legendary film actress and fashion icon, made a striking comment on X just a week before her passing was officially announced at the age of 91. The news of her death came after a period of speculation that had circulated following three weeks of medical care at a hospital near her home in Saint-Tropez.

A post from a celebrity news account on X, which was later deleted, reportedly stated: “An icon has passed away, leaving behind an unforgettable legacy and an eternal imprint on the hearts of the French.” In response to this rumour, Brigitte addressed it directly with a message that read: “I don’t know which imbecile launched this fake news tonight about my [death], but know that I am well and that I have no intention of taking my leave.”

Two months after making this statement, Brigitte passed away. The news was revealed by her charitable foundation, which highlighted how she had stepped away from her successful career to focus on animal welfare and her foundation. Her dedication to these causes became a significant part of her legacy.

In 2023, two years prior to her death, Brigitte experienced respiratory issues, and her husband, Bernard d’Ormale, openly spoke about her health. He told the French newspaper Var-matin: “Like all people of a certain age, she can no longer bear the heat. It happens at 88 years old. She must not [over-exert herself].”

During her final years, Brigitte struggled with mobility, often relying on crutches. In an interview with La Parisienne in 2023, she shared: “I can hardly walk anymore, I’m dependent on crutches, and dancing is very difficult for me.”

Brigitte gained international fame as one of the most recognisable faces in cinema. However, she eventually withdrew from the entertainment industry to focus on charitable work, particularly in the area of animal rights.

Her journey began as a talented ballet dancer and model, with her first appearance on the cover of Elle magazine at just 15 years old. Fashion historian Nicole Parrot later recalled: “Women of my generation all remember her first cover. She represented something that had never had its place before in society or in fashion: that of the jeune fille.”

This attention led to her first movie audition, where she met screenwriter Roger Vadim. The pair fell in love and married after she turned 18. Her early acting career included roles in the comedy Crazy for Love and the drama Manina, the Girl in the Bikini.

Brigitte went on to appear in a dozen films before her husband cast her in his directorial debut, And God Created Woman, in 1956. The film was a global success and cemented her status as a sex symbol, with critics using the term "sex kitten" to describe her sultry on-screen presence.

Vadim once said: “I did not invent Brigitte Bardot. I simply helped her to blossom.”
